Born and raised in Jefferson City, Missouri, Read Klos is a 2nd generation jeweler/gemologist. Read learned the jewelry business under his father’s supervision. He attended the Gemological Institute of America located in Santa Monica, California. Once he received his degree in Gemology, Read thought, “While I am out in California, why not apply for a job on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills?”

He landed a job as the Head Gemologist for one of the world’s finest antique and estate jewelry firms, Frances Klein, on Rodeo Drive. During his career, he helped in assisting clients such as Sly Stallone, Demi Moore, Bruce Willis, Barbra Streisand, Steven Spielberg, and Rob Reiner just to name a few.

After four years with Frances Klein, Read decided it was time for a change, and he took a management job with Mayors Jewelers located in Palm Beach, Florida.

In 1994, Read was approached by his brother Jay to start a concept store of engagement rings that would be located in Huntsville, Alabama. His bother Jay had owned Grogan jewelers since 1985 and was looking to expand his store from Florence, Alabama to Huntsville.

Read wanted to get back to a more intimate setting, as he grew up in a city where everyone knew your name. Huntsville was a perfect fit. In 1999, Read opened Klos Diamond Center, which has flourished ever since. He is now in his fourth location in downtown Huntsville as a Private “By Appointment” jeweler.

In 2004, Read met his wife, Allison, a native Huntsvillian, and they were married in that same year. In August of 2006, Read and Allison were doubly blessed with twins, Charlotte and Lawson. They now live happily in Meridianville, AL.

Read has been a past Rotarian for 14 years, Past Board of Directors for the BBB for 5 years, Chairman for Cub Scout Pack 94, Toney AL for 2 years, a volunteer for SARTEC K-9 Search & Rescue for over 7 years, and past Board of Directors for Women’s Business Center North Alabama (WBCNA). He now serves as “Scoutmaster” for Scouts BSA Troop 95 located in Toney Alabama.
